Summary of Research

My research focuses on understanding the role of Endothelin-1 (ET-1) in adipocyte function, specifically its regulation of adiponectin secretion via peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), a key regulator of adipogenesis. Recent findings from our lab indicate that knockout of the endothelin B (ETB) receptor enhances systemic insulin sensitivity and improves lipid metabolism. Building on these insights, my work aims to determine whether pharmacological inhibition of the ETB receptor can restore adiponectin expression in vitro. Utilizing primary adipocyte cultures from wild-type and ETB knockout mice, I seek to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which ET-1 influences adiponectin levels and disrupts adipogenesis, particularly in the context of obesity. Additionally, my research explores potential pharmacological strategies to counteract ET-1-mediated dysregulation of adipocyte function. By addressing these key questions, my work aims to provide novel insights into the role of ET-1 in obesity and identify potential therapeutic targets for metabolic disorders.
